Actress Nadiya might seem to perfectly fit the bill of the character of a dignified school teacher in Pattalam, but the truth is that she was not the original actor chosen to play it. In fact, director Rohan Krishna and his writer wife Sheeba Rohan had planned the character to be played by a man and so had approached Jayaram for the role.
The actor, known for his gift of the gab, was thoroughly excited with the script and expressed his interest in doing the film. This was when he was acting in the Malayalam film, Veruthe Oru Bharya with Gopika. Sheeba and Rohan narrated the script when the actor was shooting for the film in Ottappalam. The actor said he would be unable to do the film as he had already committed to do a trip to the US and had received advance for it.
It was then that producer Subash Chandra Bose came up with Nadiyas name. This required the script to be reworked, and when Nadiya was met in Mumbai and told the new script, she was excited beyond bounds.
My biggest attraction in the script was that I didnt have a pair. This is a novel script for me, says the actress, who leads a herd of nine sprightly school kids in the film.
Subash Chandra Bose, the producer, is the brother of popular director N Lingusamy, and has produced the film under the banner of Thirupathy Brothers. Music for the film is by Jassie Gift and cinematography by Krishnasamy.
